It doesn’t take long to figure out that life is full of ups and downs, and sometimes the challenges of life make you doubt your abilities. While it is crucial for you to have a strong support system, those who energize you, it is equally important for you to find that strength within yourself.
There are moments when you are surrounded by the people you are most connected to, yet you feel alone. This is not due to their inadequacy, it’s just that you must dig deeper into what you think you know about yourself, and find your hidden power.
Highlight your strengths. Before recognizing the areas in your life that need improvement, you must praise yourself on the things you are doing right. This can be something as small as meeting a deadline, to a great feat, such as starting a company. Although sometimes weaknesses have a louder voice than your strengths, you must make a conscious effort to give life to the existence of what makes you strong.
Admitting that you have areas to improve upon is not the same thing as saying you are a failure. It is comprehending the truth that although you may strive for it, perfection is not an attainable goal. Besides, who really wants to be perfect? Once you’ve achieved perfection, there’s no room for advancement, which in my opinion, is not a life worth living.
Coming to terms with where you can be better is only half the battle. You must create a plan of action to turn those areas of growth into areas of strength. Your plan must be comprehensive. It should include your objectives, possible challenges, solutions to the challenges, and your goals. In the business world, you hear that your goals must be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely) in order for them to be achievable. This applies to your personal life as well.
It’s time for the execution phase. Remember, when you created your plan, you accounted for challenges. That wasn’t for the fun of it, it was because bumps along the way are inevitable. Don’t get discouraged. Keep pushing through.
You’re done! Go back and compare your areas of improvement with the implementation of your strategy, and determine if you have been effective. If not, tweak your plan and try again.
There are plenty of people worthy of respect and admiration, but before you focus on building up others, start with you!
