Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Robert now resides in Denver and is the executive director for DenverWorks. A non-profit organization, DenverWorks’ mission is to help those who are unemployed and those with barriers get back to work through job preparation and job placement. Barriers to employment are wide ranging are can be specific to an individual, for example it could be lack of transportation, inadequate skill level, or improper clothing. DenverWorks is here to help everyone 17 and older.
Robert’s dream growing up was to be a professional football player. He achieved that lofty goal and lived that life. After some reflection he decided that it was time to give back to the community. He grew up in neighborhood that was under-served, underprivileged and underrepresented. Robert recalls that during his childhood that he did not encounter anyone, who looked like him, giving back and trying to make a difference. Now he has the opportunity to fill that void, provide appropriate representation, and serve in a capacity where the community feels it is beneficial to them. That’s an important distinction which means listening to the needs of the people instead of telling them what they want.
His father (a sharecropper from MS) and mother (a CNA) instilled in him the drive to work hard and fight for all people.
